Mangrove Finch Rescue Misson
Galapagos National Park personnel and scientists at the Darwin Foundation are working to save the mangrove finch from extinction through captive rearing of the chicks. The mangrove finch has suffered population declines primarily due to the parasitic fly, Philornis downsi. Eggs and hatchlings have been collected and are being raised in the safety of the Darwin Foundation facilities on Santa Cruz Island. These will hopefully be released back into the wild soon!
